First Montessori School of Atlanta, a pre-k to 8 school in Sandy Springs, is accepting applications for a part time afternoon music teacher beginning in spring 2012. Ideal candidates have Orff training or a willingness to obtain training, piano and choral skills, a bachelors degree and experience with opera and other dramatic performances with students ages 6 to 14. Interest in increasing from part time to full time as the program continues to grow and working alongside the current music instructor is preferred.
The current music program includes choral and Orff music lessons for ages 6 to 14, choral and Suzuki violin lessons for ages 9 to 12, music appreciation for ages 12 to 14, and teacher support in music instruction for ages 3 to 6. The student choral and Orff groups perform annually in addition to the opera and Suzuki violin concerts presented in the spring.
First Montessori is a board governed school established in 1963 serving student ages 1 ½ to 14 and currently enrolls 260 students and employs 45 faculty and staff. The 7-acre campus includes 2 main class buildings, an arts cottage, media center, activity court, field and several playgrounds. The 80-acre Landschool is located north of Rome, Georgia for overnight excursions for ages 6 and over.
